1912 The passenger liner S. S. Titanic sank. (See April 14th entry.)
Some years ago, a gentleman with a penchant for designating special days and weeks announced that April 15 was to be known as National Hostility Day. It makes sense. After all, this is the day when you must file your Federal income tax return. Every year on this day, American post offices are packed with people filling out forms, writing in their checkbooks, buying stamps, and mailing their returns. Frowns and furrowed brows sometimes become sighs of relief as these citizens exit the building.
On this day in 1452, the village of Vinci in Italy’s Tuscany was the site of a great event. Inventor, designer, painter, and sculptor Leonardo da Vinci was born. The world became a richer place as da Vinci’s genius grew and took form.
